The symptoms of peritonitis are different from one person to another. Some of the principal symptoms of  peritonitis are:

-abdominal distention, board-like rigidity caused by the contraction of the abdominal wall’s muscles, swelling of the abdomen

-shock

-inability to urinate or pass stools.

Peritonitis can also have complications like:

*Unusual clotting of the bloode caused by the spread of infection;

*A fibrous tissue can form in the peritoneum;

*Serious infection of  the lungs;

*Sepsis-the failure of the organs due to the infection of  blood and body;

*It’s possible that some types of acute peritonitis don’t respond to treatment.

Patients suffering from ascites also have a liver problem.When this problem results in peritonitis patients can develop a deterioration in mental status caused by the accumulation of toxic substances in the blood.

Also, patients with cancer can develop peritonitis if the cancer spreads to the peritoneum. This can cause the accumulation of fluid in the abdomen which becomes larger. Symptoms associated are the loss of appetite and energy.I n addition to this ,patients can’t breath normally because the expantion of the lungs is blocked.

All in all,the best way to prevent peritonitis and it’s complications is to seek medical help when the first symptoms appear.
